"Art and artists evolve, but without the written word, our stories risk going untold."
What started as an intimate gathering on February 1st has blossomed into something beautiful—a continuing celebration of Los Angeles art that arrives directly in your mailbox. Our surprise postcard fundraiser is still going strong, and we're thrilled to share this unique opportunity with art lovers everywhere.
The Magic of the Unknown
For just $21 per envelope (shipping included), you'll receive original artwork from talented Los Angeles artists—but here's the twist: you won't know which pieces you're getting until you open them. It's like Christmas morning for art enthusiasts, with each envelope containing a carefully curated surprise that could feature work from established artists you've admired or introduce you to emerging voices you're about to discover.
Patti Fortlage, one of our recent participants, captured the experience perfectly: "It was so fun to receive my postcards in the mail and to get to open each new piece of art. The talent is outstanding. Some were from artists I had yearned to own work from and others were from artists I had yet to be introduced to... getting them in the mail was an uplift I didn't even know I needed."
Why This Matters
Every dollar from this fundraiser goes directly to supporting Art and Cake, our online magazine published through January Arts, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. As we've pivoted to publishing exclusively through January Arts this fall, we're building something bigger—a sustainable future for art journalism in Los Angeles.
Your support helps us:
Champion underrepresented artists who deserve recognition
Promote visibility of avant-garde movements pushing creative boundaries
Uncover and share little-known facets of LA art history
Pioneer an art writers' mentorship program for the next generation
Continue our core programs: exhibition reviews, studio visits, and artist spotlights
Building Community, One Story at a Time
Art and Cake isn't just a magazine—it's a bridge connecting artists with audiences, critics with creators, and established voices with emerging talents. We provide an accessible forum for diverse and inclusive contemporary voices in the Los Angeles art world, creating the cultural conversation that ensures our community's stories don't go untold.
In a city as creatively rich as Los Angeles, we believe every artist deserves to have their story shared, their work celebrated, and their voice heard. Through Art and Cake, we're building that platform, one article at a time.
