Who can sign up for January Arts? Our membership is created for artists at any point of their career. We work to bring artists with diverse experiences together in order to support each other. Our community is just that, community. Artists talking to Artists. Think the Charmed Circle of Gertrude Stein in Paris, The Cedar Bar with Abstract Expressionists in NY and Bloomsbury Group in England.
-
Can I join at any time?Absolutely. Your membership begins when you sign up. We will send you a welcome email with all of the information you need to become part of our community.

Why is the Call for Art List a separate charge? We recently moved this subscription to Substack to make it easier for artists to navigate, sign up and find the opportunities they are looking for. We felt this was a good move for our artists to receive opportunities to their inbox before they decide to join our membership. When you subscribe, you can receive a free 14 day trial.
-
Why do you have a Private Facebook Group for January Arts?We have experienced several forum type platforms for various art communities such as, discord, slack, circle, whatsapp, groupme, etc. While we have a love/hate relationship with Facebook, we have always come back to it, because most artists are on Facebook and it is easier for everyone to navigate. You don’t have to sign into anything special.
-
Who works directly with the artists in January Arts? Our cheerleader extraordinaire, Kristine Schomaker, leads each meeting. Kristine comes with a plethora of experience as a multidisciplinary artist showing in museums and galleries as well as curating exhibitions, creating artist support and crit groups, organizing events, teaching workshops and more. Kristine is never at a loss for ideas and is an advocate for creating your own opportunities and reciprocity. She believes that we play the long game in art and patience and perseverance is what allows us to thrive in our careers. Getting involved, showing up and following directions are keys to sustainable art practices.
